E’ un’alchimia di differenti sensazioni, che entrano in circolo là dove performance multidisciplinari, di danza contemporanea, nouveau cirque, teatro musicale, d’attore e di figura scelgono di raccontarsi, in rappresentazioni tutte da giocare. Per un festival che da sempre coniuga il lavoro di compagnie locali, italiane e straniere accomunate dalla ricerca di nuovi linguaggi in uno stimolante e quanto mai produttivo mix artistico, ribadendo ad ogni edizione la sua vocazione per la rappresentazione partecipata: stiamo appunto parlando di Differenti Sensazioni, un festival che non è solo un’occasione di svago. Una rassegna estiva di spettacoli che va oltre, che nasce da un vero e proprio progetto culturale e che ogni anno sa caratterizzarsi come evento irripetibile.
Fra le prime iniziative in Piemonte dedicate alla ricerca nel campo delle arti dello spettacolo, Differenti Sensazioni ha saputo mantenere e sviluppare negli anni una progettualità aperta alla dimensione locale, ma contemporaneamente di respiro internazionale, riuscendo a combinare proficuamente l’interesse per le energie creative e le connotazioni ambientali della città ospitante, Biella - che ha offerto le singolari prospettive scenografiche di una struttura di archeologia industriale di grande fascino per la residenza “arte transitiva”, spazio laboratorio privilegiato per stimolare e promuovere il teatro e le arti, favorendo il superamento delle tradizionali suddivisioni in generi - con l’attenzione per le esperienze di sperimentazione dei linguaggi artistici dei diversi Paesi europei.
Ogni giornata in cartellone propone più interventi spettacolari, esito di espressività differenti e di differenti generi artistici, per una manifestazione che è a questo punto entrata nella tradizione degli eventi biellesi, intrecciandosi con la vita culturale della città, e che costituisce ormai un modello di organizzazione culturale presente e diffuso in Italia e all’estero.

Every now and then it is important to look back, to make balances, especially, when you succeed in finding a link in past experiences with the experiences that you’re living in the present. It’s not the nostalgic preservation of what we have lived nor the latest repeat of the same thing: the twentieth anniversary of the International Arts Festival “Different Sensations” is for us the occasion to ascertain how the interests and the reasons that spur us at the beginning of the 80s (first edition of Different Sensations to date from 1981), have had a development and how nowadays they express a cultural function.
Maybe with a stronger managerial ability a festival like Different Sensations, the first in Piedmont focused on multidisciplinary forms of the contemporary art show, might have had more recognitions today, but on the other hand it is possible to notice how we succeed in contributing to the diffusion of the artistic experiences of live show innovation by giving hospitality (with a particular attention to the quality of the relationships - as all the participants recognized gratefully) to over a thousand companies, among the locals and those coming from all the Italian regions and European nations. It is this consciousness that rewards and reinforces this initiative.
The bet that is re-proposed every year with Different Sensations, is therefore to believe that the artistic expression is always transforming and that in order to correspond better to our contemporary, we have got to use every creative way that can be found, chosen or elaborated keeping in mind every artistic discipline, according to our needs.
According to these standards deduced from a thirty-years practice, every year Different Sensations promotes many companies. They are often among the most recent active formations in Europe, depending on an increasingly larger audience that shows its intelligent curiosity for those artistic expressions, out of the regular formulas, that can stimulate and involve deeper.
At last our sincere thanks to the Public and Private Institutions that have supported the festival during all these years believing in the Different Sensations “formula”: an initiative addressed to all the audience that always succeeded in uniting the funny with culture.
